Curly Stranger in the Forest

While bemoaning the fact that there are no flowers in the forested part of our property, I happened upon this little beauty. I have no idea what it is, but it was so colorful and interesting I decided a portrait was in order! The color is actually more orange than yellow. I will be watching it to see how that last bud opens.

  1. It is very pretty what ever it is! I have never seen this before..it looks like a little tiger lily! Very interesting! I love all the wild flowers..I just hate it when we get so busy with summer stuff and other stuff like laundry and cleaning that we can't go out and explore. Yesterday we went for a while..it was so windy, photos were impossible.:)

  2. Oh Far Side! I was so sure you would know what it is! If I ever find out I will let you know :)

  3. Hi Duchess, I think it is in the Lily Family, and it possibly is a Erythronium better known as a Fawn Lily out in your parts.. The Orange color is perplexing. I can find them in Yellow, pink, white and even tinged in blue..but the Bright Orange..that has me stumped..maybe it is so rare that you can sell it and retire! It is probably in the western edition of The Field Guide I use for wildflowers. :)

  4. Far Side of Fifty did indeed identify the curly stranger. It is a "Leopard Lily" just in case anyone is wondering!
