Madrone Tree

I was told this is a Madrone tree. They were plentiful in the area where we camped last week. I was intrigued by the bark and the colors. It looks like brown paint peeling off with a smooth green paint underneath. Evidently this happens every year. I hope you can see it ok when you enlarge it.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I read some about this tree today in one of my reference books. It gets a berry like a Strawberry..that are Ok eaten in small quanities.
It is also an Evergreen..which I never would have guessed. It can get to be 130 feet tall..impressive! I forgot to tell you that I enjoyed the deer on your other blog..but enjoyed the massiveness of the trees too! That was a nice buck..I have only been able to photograph Does. :)
